My Plan to Declutter A Little Every Week…And Stick With It
Who else has a history of being a little messy and disorganized at times? Yes, that is me as well.
I love stuff, and I love clothes and accessories, books, notebooks, health and beauty products, and more. But I am constantly misplacing something, or frustrated that everything is cluttered and in piles. So, I have started on a little journey to get my house in tip top shape.
Here is the plan….
I am going to go room by room through my house, doing these 3 things: decluttering, cleaning, and organizing. Simple right? Probably easier said than done. Each week I am going to work on a room. Some rooms may take longer than a week. In fact, most rooms will probably take longer. If I am being realistic, with everything I have going on, it will take quite a while.
I am hoping each room will take 1-2 weeks ( I work a full time job already), but I am patient in the fact that some rooms may take longer. That is key here: be patient with yourself if you choose to do this as well, because if you get discouraged or overwhelmed(like me), you will want to give up. I am really bad at thinking I can complete a job in a weekend or a few days, when the task is just too big for that. I am learning to be patient with myself, and also not jump from one room to the next never finishing one room.
Room #1: the Dressing Room
This room is a new room that my husband did for me, to house all my clothes, shoes, accessories, and a place to get ready everyday and take pictures in. I was so excited when it got completed, that I just kind of threw everything in it just so I could get in it. Because that’s how I did it, it has been disorganized organized (just made that up)! In other words, I need to clean it up and organized everything.
Here is the list….
- Organize all hanging clothes by type(sleeveless, tees, longsleeve, etc–you get the idea)
- Organize all folded clothes by type
- Organize shoes by type(sandals, heels, tennis shoes, etc)
- Organize desk and all contents
- Hang the pictures that I bought for the room but never got hung
- Hang my necklace holder(still in other room)
- Organize purses
- Organize jewlery
- Organize Hair accessories
- Create area in desk for blog stuff
- Find home for ironing stuff
- Sweep & Dust mop
- Dust
- Hang mirror? (still deciding on whether to leave on floor or hang)
- Divide hanging clothes by type w/ fabric covered hanger
- Hang Black and white bulletin board for little notes
*Also, I am keeping a list of items I will need to purchase, or like to purchase, after I get the whole process done, if I don’t find anything I already have that will work.
Each night this past week I plan on working a little bit in the room after work and supper. A little each day really does you farther along.
Set the mood…In order for me to do just about anything, I have to have a podcast, the tv, or music in the background for background noise. I don’t think I do anything except write and read, with nothing going in the background. Those 2 tasks require me to totally concentrate, but doing the decluttering thing, I have to keep inspired, so background noise it is.
Currently, I have pulled out several clothes to go through in my dressing room. The plan is to organize all my clothes by sleeveless, short sleeve, and long sleeve tops. Then shorts, capris, pants, skirts. You get the picture. Then by color. This will hopefully help me to find items easier.
I have the Whering App and am slowly adding clothes in to it. I love the Whering App. It is by far my favorite Clueless style closet app I have tried yet. I highly recommend it.
So, that is the plan for probably the next several days: cleaning and organizing my dressing room. I will try to keep you updated on Instagram as I go.
Have a great day!
Libby
