A Little Camping Trip Recap
Day 1: Friday night by the campfire
We love to go camping; that is me and my hubby. But the most enjoyable camping trips are in the Fall when the leaves have changed colors and are starting to fall, when the temperatures are much more pleasant than 105 degrees in the shade, and when you can cook soups over the fire all day long. These yearly Fall camping rituals are what we love about camping so much.
On the way out here, I was snapping pictures from inside the truck, of the beautiful trees along the highway. Due to the drought, the leaves aren’t as pretty as they usually are, but they are actually prettier than I had thought they would be.
It’s Friday night here at the campsite. We ate chilli, cooked all afternoon over the fire, for supper tonight. Chilli cooked over the fire, on a cast iron tri-pod is for sure warming and comforting on a cool Fall evening.
Day 2: Reading, writing, and drinking pumpkin apple cider by the fire all day
My favorite thing about fall is beig able to drink coffee or pumpkin apple cider all day. What makes it even better, is camping and sitting around the fire and drinking coffee and pumpkin apple cider all day. Pumpkin apple cider is my new favorite apple cider. I’m not really a fan of regular apple cider, but once I found this pumpkin apple cider, the game changed dramatically. I’m now a apple cider believer, but only if it’s “pumpkin”. Who doesn’t love pumpkin everything?
Anyway, back to the camping trip. There wasn’t a lot of people camping this weekend, so the campground was quiet, which I love. I would rather go on weekends where the campground isn’t full. It is so much more enjoyable for me. But I completely understand if other people crave being with their friends.
I did a lot of reading, some writing, planning, and making lists. I took time to plan out blog posts for this week, and social posts. It felt good to use that time to develop a plan for the week.
After lunch, we cooked ham and beans over the fire the rest of the day, in a cast iron skillet just like we did the chili Friday night. The ham and beans finally got done about 6:30 Saturday night right about the time it started raining. That was good timing. And let me tell you…the ham and beans were great! I would love to try this in my backyard some Sunday with the hubs.
Day 3: Still raining, but still a blast.
Well, it rained all night long, literally. In fact, It was pouring rain around 5:30 Sunday morning and I couldn’t go back to sleep because the rain was so loud. So I got up and joined Dylan for coffee in the living room.
A couple hours later, it finally stopped raining outside, and we were able to go to build a fire again outside. Everything was pretty wet, but I’m not complaining at all…we need the rain for sure.
Shortly after lunch, we packed up to go home. I love going camping especially in the Fall, but I love coming back home too. The drive this time though, was so beautiful with the trees turning and the leaves falling. It’s always a little sad at the end of a camping season, but it always gives us something to look forward to next year.
Well, I hope you all have a great Monday and week ahead!
