A Little Note About Personal Style
Do you look at Instagram and fashion bloggers and say to yourself “they have such a great style” or “I wish I could look like that”? I think we all have.
Let me share a little secret I have noticed in today’s world that I’ve never seen before. Any style is okay and accepted in today’s world (in my opinion at least). Yes, sure, there will always be those who don’t think you have good style or think you should look a certain way to be accepted. But in this world of social media, there are so many different kinds of styles. And people are less afraid of sharing their style, which I would have never seen coming when I was a teenager in the 90s. I follow many people on Instagram with a wide range of style. In fact, you will find in my style, that I like different styles, depending on my mood or what I’m loving at the moment. I like anything from slow fashion to preppy to chic to bohemian, minimal and classic.
Your style is really a reflection of who you are and how you present yourself, which in turn, says a lot about how you feel about yourself. I like to have my own style everyday. Not someone else’s, but my individual look. And sometimes that includes a sweatpants day. Ok, so a lot of days, especially in the year of Covid. So glad I have a reason again to get dressed up for work.
So don’t be hard on yourself to have that perfect style or to fit in with the “in” style or to be “trendy”. Trends will forever come and go. But, you are your style. Kind of like you are your brand. Your style is portrayed in not only how you present yourself, but in how you carry yourself. I have always loved clothes and outfits, and have always had lots of clothes. If clothes don’t really mean a lot to you, that’s ok. That is your style and totally accepted.
When I scroll through Instagram or read fashion blogs, I am not wishing I could look like them, I am admiring their style and looking for outfit pairs for my own style, that I hadn’t thought of yet. In other words, scrolling Instagram for me, is like creating a mood board for my style. It is in no way trying to be someone else, but rather being inspired. Don’t wish you were something else. Be you. It’s ok.
Have a beautiful day.
