Creating Your Own Brand of Style That Will Last You A Lifetime Instead of a Trend’s Lifetime
Trends are not really my thing. At least most of the time. Sure, you may see me with something trendy, but most of the time, it is something I have found at a vintage/thrift store. Where I live, most of the time, those items are way out-dated. But to me, the items I purchase are timeless.
Even the trends I see on IG that everyone is doing, are still not really my thing. After a little while, once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all kind of thing. To not totally bash trends, there are a few (I say a few), that will catch my eye and I love. But I admittedly, have fallen in the trend trap a few times, and when I do, I usually get upset with myself for buying something that I don’t really love. Have you ever done that or found yourself tempted to get that latest trend or follow the crowd on a trend?
I have never been one to be a follower, in anything. Even my parents will tell you that. But that doesn’t mean that followers are bad. It means that that is not my brand of style. Or better said, it is not who I am. But if that’s you, that is ok. I tend to pave my own path when it comes to trends, ideas, fashion, etc…most of the time. I believe you need to be who you are, not who someone wants you to be. This can apply to life, and to fashion and style.
I say all that to say this, be you. Be the style you want to be. If that is similar to someone you look up to, then do that. I have lots of people I look up to and admire. Especially when it comes to style and fashion. But be encouraged to know, that you are great by being you. And there has never been a better time to be your own style than now. It makes me think of the Happy Gilmore movie with Adam Sandler, when he makes the boy who peed his pants feel cool by telling him and all his friends that “it’s cool to pee your pants”. While I don’t recommend peeing your pants (LOL), I do recommend that you be you, and strive to make others feel included. Don’t hate on someone if they are different than you, or have different style. If you truly love orange hair, like truly, then rock it! But if you are doing it and you don’t truly love it, then don’t do it.
So, the moral of all this is that when it comes to style and fashion, create a wardrobe that is timeless. One that will grow with you. One that you can modify if your style does change.
I receive compliments almost every day on my outfits. And my style has evolved over time. But over the past few years, I have really honed in on my style and what makes me feel good when I wear it. It is my hope that you develop your style that is only your brand of style. Your signature style. What makes you feel good when you wear it.
While many others may have the same kind of style as you, it doesn’t at all mean you are following the crowd. There will always be others who are a lot like each one of us. But, there is only one you. Don’t try to be someone else, but be you. That is when you will feel the most content and happiest with yourself. I have had to learn this over the years. And believe me, it has taken years.
So take some time to brainstorm what your style is. Write down some words or phrases that describe your style. Then this next step, is what I have done, is I have figured out how to make every single item in my wardrobe fit that style. As I post everyday on here and social, I will show you how you too can do that if you choose to. But I want to share style inspiration, tips, hacks, and applying it all to your life as a whole.
I am heavily inspired by style and creativity when it comes to fashion, food, and life in general. It is my hope that I can provide through this blog, my socials, and this brand, how to curate that timeless style in your life. I hope you have a great day and keep living your stylish life.
