Finding Time To Read

Everyday I look forward to the evening time after supper, chores, and shower, when I finally sit down for the evening with a cup of coffee and a book. I literally look forward to this everyday. It is one of those things I work all day for. It is one of my greatest pleasures, my non-negotiable. My absolute favorite thing to do.

One thing I notice a few of people I follow who are readers is that they always seem to read so many books. I often wonder how they read so many books a month and then a year. One girl I follow, Autumn, read over 100 books in a year a few years ago. I thought that was amazing. Another reader I follow, reads like 6 or 7 a month, and shares her monthly book reviews on her blog.

I am a slow reader, and always have been. I get distracted very easy. So, how can I find more time to read so I too can read more books? Because I have a ton on my reading list and cannot seem to get them read. (I love to read all kinds of books). So, I thought I would think of some ways I could find more time to read, since it is my favorite thing to do.

11 Ways to Find Time To Read

  • Make time. Just what it says. Like how you make time to watch your favorite tv show, make time to read your book. Do it!
  • Plan it in your schedule. Now this one I don’t have to do, but if you are trying to read more, and don’t read very much, this tip might help. Try reading like 5-10 pages a day.
  • Make it a non-negotiable. Kind of like eating, you read everyday to live. LOL. This is my non-negotiable. I may not get time to read during the day, but I have to read to go to sleep, or I won’t fall asleep.
  • Consider it a part of your personal learning plan. If you are like me, I love learning. Books are a great way to continuously learn.
  • Always keep a book with you at all times. You never know when you may have a moment to read…at the Dr. office, on the train or plane, waiting for someone. I always try to carry a big enough purse.
  • Watch less tv, and read more. This one is hard for me because my Hubby and I have so many shows that we watch together in the evenings. But he has a few shows I am not that interested in, and when he watches those, I either write or read my book.
  • Instead of going out, stay in and read. Save the money, cook a meal, and read all evening. What better of a perfect date can you get?
  • Listen to audio books. This is one I don’t really do, but wouldn’t be opposed to doing. I do believe I could read more books, if I listened to them. Simply because I listen to podcasts all day long, so audio books would be more convenient. But I am like OCD when it comes to possibly missing a part, and feeling like I have to go back and relisten. I am afraid that might be the case with audio books, but very willing to try. I had an Audible trial for a little bit, but didn’t use it much. My mom listens to audio books and loves them. Does anyone else listen to audio books? What are your thoughts and opinions about audio books?
  • Schedule 1 night a week to read in the evening instead of watching tv. This idea I am going to do. A perfect evening, is one where I have a candle lit, a cup of coffee, just sat down after a shower in my sweats and tee, read and maybe watch one show on tv.
  • Read in the bathtub. Now I love doing this and I do it often. I run a bubble bath, light a candle, get my tub tray, a book, a glass of water, soft music, dim lights, and read for 30 minutes to an hour. Pure bliss.
  • Scroll less. This last one is hard for all of us I’m sure. But I find myself scrolling so much or going down rabbit holes, I have to just peel myself out of. Then I am frusterated with myself for scrolling so much. I want to scroll less for fun, and more for the blog…a reason for scrolling.

So there is my list of how to find time. When do you find time to read? Share your ideas and what you like to read. I am constantly adding to my TBR pile/list.
