How To Feel Put Together

Do you like going to work in the morning, or going anywhere really, and look your best? If you’re like me, you like looking put together even when you are home. There is something about getting ready for the day, that helps you feel better about yourself. But how can you look put together with minimal effort? A routine and a uniform style. I have the same morning routine for getting ready that I use every single day. I also choose the same items everyday for my outfit. Minimizing everything has really helped me to trim down my get ready time and effort. Here is my routine that takes me 30 minutes or less:

  1. Brush teeth
  2. Wash face
  3. Get dressed except jewlery and shoes(that comes last)
  4. Straighten dried hair using hair oil and a straightener (I wash my hair at night and let air dry because I have very curly hair that would take too long to dry and straighten in the morning)
  5. Put on makeup (I use the same 8 things every morning: foundation, blush, highlighter, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip liner, mascara, lipstick)
  6. Put on shoes
  7. Then jewlery: 2 rings (usually the same 2 rings everyday) and always earrings. Sometimes I will wear a necklace that goes with my outfit and maybe a bracelet. But my theory is less is more.

Making this routine a habit every single day, makes it like clockwork. Keeping things simple and streamlined helps make the process quicker and smoother, leaving less room for error.

I love the polished and chic look. Everything is in place. Hair is straightened. Clothes are ironed. Makeup is perfect. While I know that perfection is not attainable, I like to feel polished and put together. It makes me feel better about myself, and makes me work better. I even like putting makeup on before I work out. That is crazy I know, but it helps to push me. My mom always told me that you feel better when you look better. She was definitely right. You do. And the impression to make on others is huge as well.

In my mom’s entire teaching career, I don’t ever remember her going to work without makeup on or getting fixed up. Now I cannot say that about myself, I have gone to work without makeup some. But mom, she is a rockstar for sure. She never goes in public without looking her best. Her mom, my Granny, taught her that. At 85, my Granny still puts makeup on. Especially when going out. She will also encourage me to wear things that look becoming on me. While I don’t always agree with her opinion, her concept of looking put together is what matters. She wants me to look my best for my husband, and also when I go out into the world. I am blessed to have Mom and Granny pushing me to present my best self to the world, and to my husband. Their role modeling has encouraged me to be my best self. How you feel on the outside helps how you feel on the inside.

What are your get ready routines or how do you feel put together?
