Living A Full Life
Do you ever look at some people and think “they seem to accomplish so much”, or “they are always doing so much with their life”? Sometimes I find myself doing this. There were so many years of my life that seem wasted on trivial times and full of trouble. Years I spent full of sorrow and sadness, tears, and forever grieving loss or suffering pain and hurt. But as time goes by, and the sorrow gets a little easier (it never goes away), I want to not waste any precious time in living the most fulfilled life I can possibly live. Filling each day with what I want to do and what I have always wanted to accomplish in life.
How to live a full life by doing and achieving the things you desire
So how can you actually go about making sure you live the most fulfilled life you can possibly live? I thought I would outline a few tactical ways I am trying to do this everyday, and continue to do this, and ways you can too.
-
Decide what you want in life. The big picture life goals like career, health, home, finances, etc. Having a full picture of your ultimate goals will help give you a direction and a path. For example, one of my life goals is to be a life-long learner. So to have learning built into my days in a must, whether that is reading a non-fiction book or listening to a podcast are a couple examples.
-
Keep track of each day. I am a journaller and I love keeping track of my days, and what I do. I don’t always do a good job of this, but I try to do it most days. It is a great way to savor what you do each day. Even if it is just a to do list, with items marked off that you accomplish that day. At least you see what you did on that day. I don’t like throwing the old to do lists, because it is a ways to see what I did and what I accomplished. It makes me feel good, when I’m having a bad day, or not feeling very productive that day.
-
Start your day defining 3 intentions for the day. You can write these down in your journal or you to do list, or your calendar. Wherever you like. But these 3 intentions could be to do’s, or treating someone kind who has been mean to you, complimenting someone, or writing a letter to your best friend. You get the idea. But since they are “intentions” they are things you are actively wanting to do that day that are meaningful.
-
At the end of your day, write down 3 things you were grateful for from the day. These 3 things can be different from your 3 intentions from above, or they can be a result of the 3 intentions you did from the day. The idea here, is to reflect on 3 different things that you noticed from your day, that you are thankful for. Blessings, things that make your heart sing, surprises, and even lessons that may have been hard but you are grateful for the teaching they bestowed upon you.
-
Don’t wish, but make it happen. Take the big life goals you have, and break them down into small steps that will help you to get there. Remember that some of your goals will take time. But taking the time to figure out how to get there is half the battle.
-
Create that life, right now, using what you have, where you are at. The rest will come later as you progress.
-
Be patient. Anything worthwhile does take some time. Sometimes, it may take a lifetime.
-
It’s about the journey. Piggy-backing off of the one prior, on being patient, the joy and the lessons, and the progress is really found in the journey. Not necessarily in the end result for some things you are working towards. For example, yes re-decorating your living room, there is an end result that is enjoyable and brings peace and satisfaction. But what about growing your business or striving to become a better person. Those things are a really never-ending if you think about it. You can always continue to grow and build and earn. So savor and learn what each journey has for you.
Now going back to the one where you took your big life goal and broke it down into little steps, and curate your days; curate your life. Fill your life with all the little steps you want to take to make your life full. For example, those habit stacked wellness rituals, that 9 step skincare routine, that multitasked workout and work call to name a few.
If you find yourself stuck and unsure what you really want, journal about your life, and what you want out of it. What are you searching for? What would you love to do, but haven’t done yet?
As always, share in the comments any other ideas you want to add as well that might have worked for you.
