Naturally Curly Hair…How To Deal

If you have naturally curly hair, and have trouble dealing with it, this post is for you. I have naturally curly hair, and for years I hated having curly hair. It can be very difficult to deal with and time consuming, especially if you like to straighten it, curls up when it rains or humid, and takes forever to dry. After years of fighting with my hair, I have finally found a pretty regular routine that works for me. It alleviates lots of time spent drying, straightening, and fighting with humidity.

One thing I always do is wash my hair the night before. (But I only wash my hair every other day unless it is going to rain). Washing your hair the night before, allows your hair to dry overnight completely. This has been a life saver and time saver for drying my hair. I used to wash it in the mornings, but drying my hair with a hair dryer literally takes 30-45 minutes to get it completely dry. (Which I’ve always heard that using a hair dryer on your hair everyday is not really good for it, and can make it dry.) If it doesn’t get completely dry and is sort of damp, my hair straightener will have trouble straightening it, and will make it more frizzy.

Washing your hair at night also works for making it curly as well. I can usually get my hair more curly if I wash it in the morning, but life is so much easier if I wash it at night. So in order to style it curly in the morning after having washed it at night, I just put a little of a lotion base curling cream on my hair, and scrunch. This keeps it from being crunchy-like and helps my hair to comb out easier.

Now let’s talk about humidity and rainy days. I usually keep an eye on the weather for rain, or humidity (if you live in humidity areas like the Midwest like I do). If it is going to be humid or rainy, curly it is. I don’t even fight or struggle to straighten it. When the humidity or rain hits it, straightening it was a complete waste of time. It becomes very frizzy and starts to curl up. There are days I didn’t pay attention to the weather or the weather changed, and curly it became.

I always wanted stick straight hair instead of curly hair. Anyone with stick straight hair will say the opposite…that they would love to have curly hair. I guess there are pros and cons to both. So luckily with naturally curly hair, I can have the best of both worlds I guess.

I really hope this posts helps you if you have naturally curly hair or know someone with curly hair.

Have a great Monday!!
