Random Thoughts on Having An Eclectic Style
Since my childhood, I have always liked many different things and many styles. Especially when it comes to decor and fashion. I would call my style eclectic at times. That’s not a term I hear much anymore, but that was the term my mom put to the sporadicalness of tastes I had when I was younger and into my teens and early adulthood.
I’m not necessarily one to jump on trends, at least not for very long if I do. And many times, it takes me a while to jump on a trend, and by the time I do, it’s on it’s way out the door. Like the stanley mugs. I finally got one a few weeks ago after seeing them on Insta for over a year. But with fashion, I tend to hold on to something until it comes back around again in style. I love ballet flats, and now they are making a huge comeback, and with a strap! I jumped on the white boots trend, and still love them.
Being a fashion blogger, who is new to the field, having only clothes or accessories on hand that are purchasable online still, is really slim to none for me. I tend to keep clothes for years, and shop more secondhand than new. Not because I am opposed to new, I am just pretty frugal, and also find it hard to part with my clothes. Hence why my clothes obsession has grown to very large proportions.
But this eclectic style I have, it really consists of a few styles wrapped up into my own personal style. Preppy, classic/chic, bohemian(this one being the smallest percentage). Preppy & Classic/Chic are really my top styles. I like the put together look, polished, crisp, not too trendy, but very clean and professional. This has really been my style since I was in junior high on.
For the bohemian, I usually pair a bohemian top with chic pants, or vice versa. Where it’s more balanced. Not too bohemian. I don’t like to go overboard with the bohemian. For me, it’s all about balance, which I have talked about a lot here on this blog if you have followed me for very long.
My eclectic style (me liking lots of different things), has really hindered me when it comes to decorating my house. Because I like so many things, I get overwhelmed in stores like Hobby Lobby or Trees & Trends. I don’t know what to choose because I like it all. So I usually end up getting pieces that don’t even go together because I just like them, or I don’t get any at all.
But for decor wise, if I was to pick a specific style I like, it would have to be masculine. I love the deep dark colors of navys, greens, browns. They exude cozy for me. And I know that the more masculine would appease the hubby as well. But truly, I have grown to really like that masculine feel. Little by little we are trying to decorate with a more masculine aesthetic. And it is very cozy, but far from done.
So even though I have chosen my decor to be more masculine, I must say, I have eclectic tendencies still for sure. I wish I didn’t sometimes, but in some cases I try to embrace it, or find a way to use it rather than go against it.
What kind of clothing styles or decor styles do you have? Are you eclectic and if you are, how have you coped with it?
