Books and Magazines are Our Favorite Things…beside for Fashion

When I was a kid up until now, I have always loved books and magazines. Magazines were always my favorite, even over books, and I read a ton of them; usually cover to cover.

The Diary of Anne Frank was a book I particuarly remember reading and loving, mainly because it was a diary and I had a diary too. I would read books like The Baby-Sitter’s Club and Sweet Valley High. I read Anne of Green Gables and Avonlea as well. These books were my favorite because I could really immerse myself into these books and envision being one of the characters. When I would play when I was a kid, I would often recreate these books and I was the main character. I loved pretending I was living in 1850, wearing big and long flowy dresses, while working outdoors or cooking in the kitchen. Back then, women did everything in dresses. I wanted to too.

Today, I still love reading stories like this, but I have expanded my genres to be more diverse. From Non-Fiction to Young Adult Fiction, and modern fiction, I don’t ever see myself growing tired of reading books.

Magazines have always been a must in my life. When I was a kid, I would read my Granny’s decorating and craft magazines daily. I think I loved magazines so much because I wanted to become what I was reading in books, and magazines showed you how to do that. (At least that’s what I thought). If I wanted to be a storekeeper working in a General Store in the 1850s, like I read about in books, magazines would show me how to recreate a Victorian look in Victoria magazine. If I wanted to like the one of the twins in Sweet Valley High, magazines showed me how to do my hair and makeup. To me, magazines were like my roadmap to living the life I dreamed of, and they showed me how to do that.

Cooking shows and home decor/DIY shows are my favorite shows to watch on TV. They were my favorite when I was a kid too. Granny and I would pretend we were on a cooking show baking cookies and I would talk and tell how to make the cookies. Magazines gave me the gateway to making my reality true, by providing recipes, tips, and loads of ideas.

Still to this day, I am a magazine girl. I read way to many probably, but I just can’t ever get enough of them. From reading Teen, YM, Seventeen, Victoria, Country Woman, and Family Circle as a little girl, to now reading Vogue, Pioneer Woman, Rachael Ray’s In Season (now discontinued), Ayesha Curry, Magnolia, Archetecturial Digest, Rue, Domino, and so many more; I don’t think I will ever grow tired of them. Oh and I have to have the physical copy of a magazine. Digital just isn’t the same (for me at least).

I am always looking for new magazines that jumped on the market. I love supporting new magazines, in hopes they will continue. Am I the only one who still loves magazines this much? What are some of your favorites? Share you favorite books and magazines in the comments. This is a great place to gain ideas for future reading endeavors.

I hope you all have a great day! Talk soon.
