Simple Ways to Get In Exercise Throughout Your Day
As exercise becomes more prevalent in my life, I am looking for easy ways to incorporate it into my day. You can totally habit stack your exercise everyday. All you need to do is figure out a simple exercise to do while you work. It may be working at your job, or even doing chores or tasks at home. But you can incorporate exercise into even the most mundane of tasks that you do everyday.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Set a timer on your phone to remind you to get up every hour and move. Walking or stretching will be sufficient, as long as you are moving.
- If you sit at a desk, do leg lifts or stretching.
- Stand at your desk instead of sitting (check out adjustable desks that will lower or raise to allow you to sit or stand at your desk).
- Practice your posture while you are sitting. This is like stretching your back muscles while you work. It also is a good habit to develop and helps your back stay more in line.
- Lean against a wall and do 10 squats every hour during your work day.
- Go for a walk on your lunch break.
- Go to the gym on your lunch break.
- If you go to the store, park as far away as possible so you can get those steps in.
- Strive for 10,000 steps per day.
- When you are cooking supper in the evenings, do leg squats at the stove, or light stretching.
- While standing doing work, cooking, or any other activity, do leg lifts.
- If you like to scroll on social media or watch You Tube videos, do those things while you walk on the treadmill. An even bigger challenge is to vow to only watch or scroll on social media, only when you are walking on the treadmill. This could break you of scrolling too much or help you to lose weight because you are doing something you want to do while also exercising.
One of my goals this year is to move and get in exercise while I do my everyday job or household chores. These tips are a great beginning point for you to start. If you have any other tips for movement, share them in the comments section. I want to build a community here where we share tips and toss ideas back and forth.
