Accomplishing
Do you ever wish you could accomplish more? Maybe you are looking back and wish you had accomplished more? I have wanted to accomplish certain things for a long time, but have yet to accomplish them. Sometimes I get discouraged, sometimes I procrastinate, and sometimes I just simply give up. All three of those things will make a sure fire prediction as to what you are going to accomplish….probably nothing. Unless you look at those 3 things and choose to realize that those things are just obstacles you need to overcome. in other words, keep going through the hard times. Persevere. Continue on. Whatever you want to call pushing through the hard times and the feelings you will get that will cause you to slow or stop all together.
Staying motivated through hard times is very hard. Many times, we are harder on ourselves than others are on us. It’s all about trying to self-motivate and keep going. Small steps are forward, are at least steps forward. No steps forward, is your desired progress at a stand-still.
A lot of times, I want the end goal, get all fired up about something, and then get stuck in the journey. It’s really all about the journey. Yes, the end goal is important, but all the learning, growing, discipline, and strength is only achieved in the actual journey. You can’t skip all the work in the middle. Anything fast is usually not worth it, but slow and steady is much more lasting and good.
So, back to accomplishing…I have a list of things I want to accomplish in the next several years, but I’ve got to learn to enjoy the journey and spend a lot of time on the journey, and less time feeling like the end goal is too far away. Learning to thrive and devote time to the journey will help to enjoy the journey and not only think about the end goal. Yes, the end goal is very important, but the journey, that is where the growth really comes.
I listen to Gary Vaynerchuk all the time, and he has always wanted to buy the Jets. He has always said that is what fuels him to keep going. A few months ago, I heard him say in an interview, that he probably won’t buy the Jets until he is 80, if he even does then, because it’s more about the journey.
In a way, this little blog is my journey to all the goals I want to accomplish. I hope this blog helps me to continue focusing on the journey, and chronicle it as I go. Everything takes a step by step approach. A racer doesn’t get to the finish line skipping the race track between the start and finish line.
What are you wanting to accomplish that is beyond reach right now, that is really more about the journey for you? Reply in the comments below. I would love to start this conversation, and see what your thoughts are and how you are going about accomplishing your goals.
